Our Travelers

In this article, we will examine the expenses and pricing for a typical family of four (comprising 2 adults and 2 children). Our example family plans to visit from August 16th to 22nd, 2026, aiming to benefit from lower crowds as the back-to-school season begins. This timing also allows them to enjoy the start of the spooky season at Disney World, with events such as Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party commencing around this period.

Resort Options and Their Costs

Disney offers three main resort categories, each with different price points and experiences. Your choice impacts your budget significantly.

Value Resorts

Value resorts are the most budget-friendly option. They offer basic amenities, fun themes, and convenient transportation to parks.

  • Resorts in this Category: Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney's All-Star Sports Resort, Disney's All-Star Movies Resort, Disney's All-Star Music Resort**

  • Room Types: Standard room sleeps up to 4 adults; Family suite sleeps up to 6 adults

  • Cost for 6 nights in Standard Room (Aug 16-22, 2026): Approximately $1,087.98 at Disney's All-Star Music Resort

Value resorts include free transportation to parks and Disney Springs, food courts, and pools. They lack table-service restaurants but have quick-service dining in their food courts.

** Disney's All-Star Music Resort features the most affordable family suites on property, providing extra space at a lower cost.

Moderate Resorts

Moderate resorts offer more amenities, larger rooms, and better dining options.

  • Resorts in this Category: Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, Disney's Port Orleans-Riverside Resort, Disney's Port Orleans-French Quarter Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

BEWARE: When you check into your resort hotel, Disney will place a $200 hold on the card you have on file for any incidentals or room charges. If there are no charges or damages, this amount will be automatically refunded to you after your stay. Pro tip: Use a credit card to avoid having $200 of your own money inaccessible during your trip.

Park Tickets for a Family of Four

For our chosen travel dates, ticket prices are expected to follow current trends, with a minor rise due to inflation. Since our sample travelers plan to stay for a week, we will opt for a 5-day park ticket without the park hopper option. This enables our travelers to leisurely explore all 4 parks with the children while also considering a rest day and travel days.

  • Ticket Type: 5-day Ticket with Admission to 1 Park Per Day

  • Cost per adult (ages 10+): $555.12

  • Cost per child (ages 3-9): $535.94

Total ticket cost for 2 adults + 2 children:

(2 x $555.12) + (2 x $535.94) = $2,182.12

Park Hopper tickets, costing approximately an extra $100 per person, provide the flexibility to explore multiple Disney parks in one day. This makes them ideal for vacations with thrill-seekers or trips primarily involving teenagers and young adults.

Dining Plans and Food Costs

Disney dining plans are optional but can simplify budgeting for meals. Disney has announced plans to bring back dining plans for 2026!

Quick-Service Dining Plan (per person, per day)

  • 2 quick-service meals

  • 1 snack

  • 1 resort refillable drink mug (free refills at resort only)

Estimated cost: $60 per person per day

Disney Dining Plan (per person, per day)

  • 1 quick-service meal

  • 1 table-service meal

  • 1 snack

  • 1 resort refillable drink mug (free refills at resort only)

Estimated cost: $100 per person per day

For a family of four over 6 days:

  • Quick-Service Dining Plan total: 4 x 6 x $60 = $1,440.00

  • Disney Dining Plan total: 4 x 6 x $100 = $2,400.00

For those staying at a Value resort, quick-service dining complements the resort's amenities effectively. Moderate and Deluxe resorts are well-suited for table-service dining plans.

**If you don't intend to have more than three table-service meals during your stay, it's advisable to choose the quick-service dining plan and pay for any table-service meals separately to maximize your experience.

Lightning Lanes Costs

Lightning Lanes offer the opportunity to skip lines for popular rides. Disney charges around $20-$40 per person daily for this service, plus separate fees for individual Lightning Lane access to the top attractions in each park. The cost varies based on the park, the day, and expected crowd levels. (Many guests feel that Multi-Pass Lightning Lanes are not worth it at Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom because of the limited ride options currently available).

For this example, we will only budget for 2 days of Multi-Pass Lightning Lane and the maximum of 2 Individual Lightning Lanes per person per day.

  • Lightning Lanes for 4 people, 2 days: 4 people x 2 park days x $20 each = $160

  • Individual Lightning Lane selections for 4 people, 5 days: Around $15 to $25 per ride, per person

Max 2 rides per person at $20 average = 4 people x 2 rides x 5 park days x $20 = $800

Total Lightning Lane budget: Approximately $1,000

Using Lightning Lanes can save hours waiting in lines and reduce stress, a valuable Disney tip for first-timers.

Cash Budget for Miscellaneous Expenses

Besides the big-ticket items, you’ll want cash or a prepaid card for:

  • MagicBand+ (Purchase in advance through the Disney Store app to save money)

  • Souvenirs and gifts (Many park souvenirs can also be found on the Disney Store app, often at a discount)

  • Snacks and drinks outside dining plans

  • Tips for housekeeping and dining

  • Transportation outside Disney (taxis, rideshares)

  • Unexpected expenses

A safe estimate is $50 to $75 per day for a family of four. For 7 days, that’s about $350 to $525.
